Welcome to this website that chronicles our (Kathy and George Hotz) Great Loop Cruise.

|
This cruise is a circumnavigation of the Eastern half of the United States.
It will take a year to complete, is a lot to prepare for, and we are very excited.
A lot of our friends and family have expressed their interest, so we are creating this Website, with the help of our Son-in-law,
Craig Powers, to enable everyone to keep track of our adventure.

Here at home, Spey is getting her bottom and prop cleaned, stripe painted, and a brief rest.

Where We Are:
Where We Are on our Schedule: (Completed legs of the journey are colored Green)
Starting from our home port in Galesville Maryland, this cruise will take us:
- Up the Intra-Coastal Waterway to New York
- Up the Hudson River to Troy
- West on the Erie Canal /
Mohawk River
- North on the Oswego Canal to Oswego on Lake Ontario
Update 7/12/2009: We are skipping the St. Lawrence, Thousand Islands, Ottowa, and Montreal legs of the journey. There is not enough time to see it all. Maybe we will do another trip, later. - George
- Then we head East to the St Lawrence River
- Through the Thousand Islands, and on to Montreal
- From Montreal we will motor to Ottowa
- Down the Rideau Canal to Lake Ontario
- Head over to Trenton
- Up the Trent-Severn Waterway to Port Severn on the Georgian Bay
- We will cruise through the Georgian Bay, North Passage
- Down the East coast of Lake Michigan to Chicago
- From Chicago we will take the Illinois River
- To the Mississippi River
- To the Tennessee River
- To the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile, Alabama. Wheewww!
- If we, and Spey, survive all of that, we will motor down the Gulf Coast to the Florida Keys and hang out for the Winter. (reward)

In the Spring of 2010:
We will motor up the Intra-Coastal Waterway of the Eastern U.S; and home.
We will not be tied to a schedule. The only exceptions to this is that we should be at Chicago by Labor Day, and it would be wise not to arrive at Mobile before the end of Hurricane Season.
We will linger at many stops for food, fuel, sightseeing, and retail therapy. We will respond to our Email whenever possible.
More to come,
George, Kathy, and Spey
